Corporate Social Responsibility

As a responsible corporate citizen, ZyXEL is committed to fulfilling our duty to society and the environment, as well as acting in the best interests of our stakeholders.

We have taken enthusiastic action to address pollution and energy issues, and as a result have received a number of corporate citizenship awards in recent years. ZyXEL has adopted green energy as one of its core principles and developed products with some of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry, applying green policies to our own operations and strongly encouraging the adoption of similar practices among our partners and suppliers.

The extent of our operations around the world has led ZyXEL to foster a corporate culture of cultural diversity and inclusiveness, having become a truly international corporation. Also working closely with the local communities where we reside, focus on cultivating talent, sharing knowledge, and participating in a wide range of altruistic activities.

As for the incentive, I'd like us to contribute five prizes of $200 to One Laptop Per Child. It's a very worthwhile apolitical and non-denominational charity that's also involved in technology, great for us:The One Laptop per Child association develops a low-cost laptop—the "XO Laptop"—to revolutionize how we educate the world's children. Our mission is "to provide educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning." We have reduced staff to deal with tough economic times; see our announcement for details. More recently, a CNN story discusses some of our great ongoing projects.

ZyXEL POWERS AMERICAN RED CROSS' MOBILE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

ZyXEL Communications Inc., a leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet connectivity and routing products, today announced that the company donated the ZyWALL2WG, to the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The donation will power the chapter's mobile communications center. The ZyWALL2WG mobile firewall VPN appliance provides mobile Internet access to wireless networks using 3G cellular connectivity. This will provide American Red Cross staff the ability to securely communicate with staff, other chapters, and local first responder agencies, including police and fire departments.

Progress Educational Foundation
Dr. Shun-I Chu, founder of ZyXEL, personally established the "Progress Educational Foundation" and the "ZyXEL Scholarship" with his own funds to provide incentives encouraging gifted students. In the past decade, more than 200 students every year have received the scholarship.
   
ZyXEL Acclaimed as Taiwan's First "Green Enterprise", Second Best in Asia
ZyXEL Communications, the world-leading broadband access solutions provider announced that in the "CG  (Clean & Green) report, ZyXEL has been ranked second place in Asia's "Green Enterprises" out of 582 companies. ZyXEL shares second place with prestigious international enterprises, including Japan's Sharp, NEC and Toyota. Within Taiwan however, ZyXEL is second to none.
   
For years, ZyXEL has taken care of disadvantaged people in its area by offering children and senior citizens necessary resources, nursery access and financial assistance.

Ignite the information fire
Through the use of Internet-linked computers, a group of students from primary schools in the mountains of Hsinchu County,Taiwan are eager to show their beautiful hometown to the world, and to see the world for themselves through the Internet. ZyXEL, as an Internet communications company, stepped out to make the kids' dream come true: volunteers from ZyXEL purchased and delivered a batch of new computers, and set up a lab for the students to surf the Net and express themselves.

Establishment of "Morning Sun Lyceum"
Volunteers from ZyXEL raised money to build the "Morning Sun Lyceum" through community fairs and garage sales. The facility helps intellectually challenged children to enjoy the respect and support others do, and educates them to take care of themselves in the future. Field trips are regularly organized for these children, to keep them in touch with society and natural environments.

Care for Disadvantaged Children
ZyXEL periodically organizes donation events for the fund needed to provide children from aboriginal and financially challenged families with free meals. The fund is also shared with charity organizations and Family Support Centers.

Care for Solitary Senior Citizens
ZyXEL offers donations and condolences to senior citizens ; it also provide funds and organize events at nursing homes housing.

Emergency Assistance
Support of school children after the Aere Typhoon, donations to refugees in the Southeast Asia Tsunami and Sichuan earthquake, among others, are all examples of opportunities where ZyXEL employees offered their sympathy and substantial help to unfortunate people.
